A quiet conversation with a workshop owner

The diesel in the tank

Demand alone doesn’t feed a business. The process that carries demand to your door is what feeds it.

A client of mine sent his friend to me. He runs a car repair workshop. He was worried, and I could hear it in the first minute.

“The number of cars on the road keeps growing. But my business isn’t. Only the old customers keep coming back. No new ones. Why?”

I started to explain. Google Maps, listings, the way customers actually search for a workshop now.

He wasn’t convinced. He shook his head.

“Krishna, I don’t believe in all this online thing. That’s not for a workshop like mine.”

So I asked him something instead.

“Your car has diesel in the tank. Now tell me, how does the engine actually run?”

He smiled. He knew this cold. He walked me through it, patiently, like a teacher. The pump, the pipe, the injector, the pressure, the timing. Every step, every part. Beautiful.

I told him quietly, See. There is a process for everything. The diesel doesn’t reach the engine by wishing. There is a whole system in between.

Your business is the same. The demand is there. Right now, somewhere in your city, someone is searching for a workshop they can trust. But when they search, they don’t find you. They find someone else. That’s not a business problem. That’s a process problem.

He went quiet for a while.

Then, gently, we started to work together. No noise. Just fixing the pipes. His Google listing. His photos. His reviews. His directions.

Three months later, his workshop was full. Fully booked. No more empty afternoons.

The truth I keep coming back to is simple. Demand alone doesn’t feed a business. The process that carries demand to your door is what feeds it. Fix the pipe, and the engine runs.

If you are a founder reading this and quietly wondering why aren’t new customers coming to me, I promise you the demand is there. What is missing is the pipe.
